A garage holds very different surfaces: metal gates, wooden doors, shelving, walls and a concrete floor. No single paint suits them all, so here is what to use on each.
Garage gates: metal and wooden
“7-in-1” primer enamel for wood, metal and concrete combines primer and finish, so no separate primer is needed. It resists weather and UV, dries in 30 minutes and, according to the manufacturer, protects the surface for up to 12 years. It suits both metal and wooden gates.
Brush off flaking paint, loose rust and dirt.
Degrease the metal. Prepare corroded areas with extra care.
Wood must be dry and free of old weak coatings.
Stir the enamel until uniform and apply evenly by brush, roller or spray.
Paint in dry weather and keep to the drying time between coats.
Ready colours: graphite RAL 7024, chocolate brown RAL 8017, moss green RAL 6005, grey, black and white RAL 9016, which can be tinted to pastel shades. A 0.9 kg pack suits a wicket gate, 2.5 kg a full gate.
Doors, shelving, pipes and radiators inside
For metal shelving, doors, pipes and radiators use the primer enamel for radiators and metal surfaces: it is white, tints to pastel colours and withstands heat up to +80°C. Both primer enamels are water-based and odourless, which helps when the garage is attached to the house.
Walls and plinth
Walls of an unheated garage and the plinth are painted with moisture-resistant “Sea Tower” rubber paint, a universal paint for facades and interiors that copes well with damp.
What about the concrete floor?
We do not recommend our enamels for a floor that cars drive on. Wheels, oil and grit call for dedicated floor coatings, epoxy or polyurethane, and LACRYSIL does not make them.
What you can do is dedust and strengthen the concrete with 1:10 primer concentrate, which is made for porous, loose, crumbling substrates. The “7-in-1” primer enamel suits concrete where no car drives: kerbs, concrete shelves and areas under shelving.
